Reba + Yvan | A Rideau Canal Engagement

There’s something so soft and romantic about wintertime up north, and I feel so lucky to have the opportunity to photograph beautiful couples during engagement season in the winter as an Ottawa wedding photographer! And Yvan and Reba’s snowy ice rink engagement session is no exception. These two make the sweetest pair, and I am so grateful that I had the chance to photograph their engagement session—and am even more excited for their wedding later this summer!

Reba and Yvan met at a swing dance night with the Ottawa Swing Dance Society {yes, that's a thing!}. Reba was learning to dance, and Yvan is an amazing dance teacher, so it was a natural fit! Although Reba had turned down Yvan’s initial request for a first date, they began dancing together as “friends,” a relationship that quickly transitioned to dating a few months later and engaged a year and a half later!

They are so kind and considerate of one another and have a magnetic energy, which is obvious in their photographs but also was shown in the way Yvan proposed. He knew that Reba loved gardens and the Makenzie King Estate, so he brought her there and walked around the grounds with her. As they made their way through the gardens, he told her how much he loved her, and when they arrived at a beautiful archway, he knelt down on one knee and popped the question! When they returned to the main estate, Reba’s childhood best friend surprised her with a visit from Europe and flowers from her favourite flower shop, Bloomfields. Reba gushed about how sweet the whole proposal was and how much she loved the little details, including how he brought along her long-time friend for the occasion.

I loved spending the afternoon with them and photographing their Rideau Canal engagement session, while showing off her stunning and classic ring and their darling smiles! I loved their classic choice of apparel and the timelessness it brought to the session overall. I feel so lucky to have the chance to photograph their Stanley’s Old Maple Farm wedding later this summer.

Reba describes Yvan as “the light of her life, her best friend, her biggest supporter, and the kindest man she has ever met,” and she says she can’t wait to spend the rest of her life with him! And you can certainly see their love in these photos!

We are one year away from OUR wedding! 🥹 idk what mental illness this is but im literally sad about the day it’s all over and im no longer in the engagement era?!💍
•
The planning process has been on pause since wedding season started, as
Champagne on the beach with your fiancé (and me!!) should be a necessity 🥂🤌🏼
This field > literally any other field (with the best couple ofc). It was a perfect late summer evening but I’m also sooooooooo excited for this location in the fall!! 🌾
•
A morning with Christine and her favourite people 🧡 (ps this is slowly turning into her insta page???😂)
•
I want other brides to truly see how in the moment Christine is in these photos. Sure, we all have 25374 panic attacks before the big day
Now, I’m not saying two dresses are a necessity… but Christine definitely would 👀
•
The new ✨trend✨ is having a different dress for the reception, whether it be a more fitted relaxed gown, or a mini! Personally, I feel like I&rsqu
What should you bring to an engagement session? Honestly, anything or nothing! A quick stop to HomeSense can be the cutest photo-op, but only if it’s relatable to you as a couple! 🪷

Plus… you can either return it on the way home
